Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Planners groups.

Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
